Thailand’s First Stop – Phuket

March 13, 2015

Our trek to Thailand began with a couple of leisurely days in Phuket – the portion of the southern isthmus that dangles into the Andaman Sea and Indian Ocean. And for the record, I know what you’re all thinking. It’s pronounced ‘Poo-ket’.

We planned this knowing our 30+ hours of travel would require some lazy beach time to recover. Unfortunately, that 30 hours turned into 55 due to a stunning array of American Airline ineptitude. We are patient folk, but the mishaps were so continuous and odd we wondered if the universe was suggesting we scrap this endeavor and go home. I’m not kidding. Our main reason for soldiering onward was that daughter Alexandra had checked into our lodging as planned and was sunning on the beach, eagerly anticipating seeing her parents after a full year and a half abroad.

We arrived feeling like this.

Eventually we moved to this thanks to the refreshments Alex had already purchased for us.

And after a day of swimming,

strolling,

enjoying vistas like these,

and wandering the lone street of Kamala Beach,

we looked like this. All was well.

Our first evening meal was seafood of course since it was caught about 100 feet away.

Mostly though, after a full year of connecting solely via Skype sessions and texting at odd hours due to time zone differences, it was wonderful just to be together.
