Wisdom to Share

January 30, 2015

Periodically I used to post a quote in the sidebar of my webpage – something that’s speaking to me from someone wise. I no longer have that website design so don’t post quotes any longer, but I decided to capture those previously-posted words of wisdom primarily for personal reference, but perhaps fun for you to peruse as well.

Jan-Feb 2015: “Learn to look at other beings with the eyes of compassion. The original Chinese is only five words: ‘compassionate eyes looking living beings.’ The first time I recited this, I was silenced. I knew that these five words were enough to guide my whole life.” ~ from Thich Nhat Hanh in his book, Being Peace

Mar-May 2015: “You’re off to Great Places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, So… get on your way!” ― Dr. Seuss, Oh, The Places You’ll Go!

May 27, 2015: “You don’t have to try to be different. You already are all different.” ― Chef Jacques Pepin, Culinary Institute of America May 22, 2015 commencement speech.

July 2, 2015: The answers are within you. Trust your intuition. Always. There is no need to journey to a home in which you already live. ~ from recent blog, Ilene, July 2, 2015

January 2016: “One doesn’t stop seeing. One doesn’t stop framing. It doesn’t turn off and turn on. It’s on all the time.” – Annie Leibovitz

April 2016: “The thing about light is that it really isn’t yours; it’s what you gather and shine back. And it gets more power from reflectiveness; if you sit still and take it in, it fills your cup, and then you can give it off yourself.”
Anne Lamott, Traveling Mercies: Some Thoughts on Faith

November 2016: “The trouble is that once you see it, you can’t unsee it. And once you’ve seen it, keeping quiet, saying nothing, becomes as political an act as speaking out. There’s no innocence. Either way, you’re accountable. ~Arundhati Roy

September 2017: “You have to act as if it were possible to radically transform the world. And you have to do it all the time. Radical simply means ‘grasping things at the root’.” ~Angela Y. Davis
