In my gallery entitled “Web of Life Series”, you’ll see that a central image is that of Frida Kahlo’s eyes, or more recognizably, her eyebrows. In this Frida retablo, I used those eyes again.
Frida’s approach to life and art was both honest and self-explorative. Since that approach finds its way into my own creativity, Frida’s bold and honest gaze found their way from the Web of Life onto this retablo.
This piece is constructed atop a 12 x 24″ upcycled cupboard door with cloth, a Solar Plate print of Frida, beads, acrylic paint, other found objects and, of course, Tyvek papercut eyes. The original was donated to Noche de Gala hosted by the Hispanic Leadership Coalition of Northeast Indiana (HLCNI.
