Web of Life (on marbled paper)

July 19, 2011

This is another mounting of Web of Life piece that I originally created to center around the Lonely Tree painting I had done about 20 years ago in pastels. Please see the description of that piece within this same gallery to learn how it came about.

This second ‘original’ cutting is mounted on a sheet of marbled paper that I made with an artist friend of mine, Diane Schafer-King. (Diane’s website) I love how it turned out with the point of the web resting in the swirl of the marbled paint. That point feels like the heart of everything. I can feel the burst of that center point deep within me, not just in my heart, but deeper. I can feel the depth that the marbled paper provides. The web of life is not flat or one dimensional but rather it has layers or indefinable perspectives and pools of blackness. It is cool. I can put my hand into it and feel it. I can stretch my consciousness into the whirls and swim in the dimensions.

The original piece measures 30 x 24″ including the border.
